For more than five years, Bonnie Baker and Bandleader Orrin Tucker barnstormed their way all over the country, rose to national success on radio's Hit Parade and saw each other practically every day. but love didn't catch up with them until they recently stepped before a Hollywood film camera! Without warning, their romance suddenly blossomed forth while they were making Paramount's newest comedy with music, "You're the One." opening Friday at the Strand Theatre. In which they play leading roles with Jerry Colons
As is frequently the custom in Hollywood, the first scene filmed for the picture was the final scene. It was a love scene, with Tucker holding Bonnie close and kissing her. It was the first time Orrin had ever kissed Bonnie, They were flustered and the scene had to be taken over again. They tried it again and observers noted that the next kiss seemed to bo more fervent and more real. Twelve "takes'* were required before the kiss scene took on naturalness. But Director Ralph Murphy, whose intuition is quick about such things, knew what was going on and was indulgent. He was first to congratulate Bonnie and Orrin, the business partners of five years. who had Just "found" each other.
Immediately upon learning of the romance. Producer Gene Markey declared a half-holiday, so that the picture's cast and studio staff could give a party for Bonnie and Orrin So when Orrin gleefully tells Bonnie "You're the One." In their first picture together, he means it!
